Are you ready for school?

Start your school year out right by creating a special spot for your kids to keep their checked out library books. Would you believe "lost" library books are most often found on your child's own bookshelf?

There are lots of cute ideas online if you want to get crafty with your kids! I did a Google search for "library book baskets" and found these two.

Have fun! See you in September.

Mrs. Hausknecht.

Books are Due!

Please turn in all of your library books!

Today notices will go home for books that are missing. Please help your child search under beds, in the car and everywhere. Believe it or not, the #1 spot for finding library books is on your child's bookshelf! Usually they get mixed in with all the rest. Look for spine labels and Irving IMC barcodes on the back.

Thank you!

Recycle those ink cartridges and cell phones with us!

School districts and nonprofit organizations across the county have been dealing with huge budget cuts, but we’ve found a way to supplement our finances to get the equipment we need.

Irving IMC is participating in the FundingFactory® Recycling Program! This fundraiser is FREE and simple because there’s nothing to sell, no paperwork to fill out and no deadline. The program runs year-round, accumulating constant income for our efforts. But we won’t get very far without your support. Please donate your empty printer cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops to our IMC and we’ll take it from there! We will recycle the cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops through FundingFactory to earn new equipment for our school.

Last year alone, more than 300 million cartridges were thrown away, while 30,000,000 cell phones were tossed or replaced. We’re alleviating the volume of waste that goes into landfills, while collecting equipment we need to keep our school running smoothly. Your help is vital to our fundraising success. Cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops can be dropped off at Irving Elementary School.

FundingFactory also sponsors a businesses support program, where your employer can help out our school without spending a cent. FREE prepaid shipping labels can be sent, free of charge, directly to any business, organization or other facility within the continental United States. Business supporters simply need to load boxes, apply a FREE prepaid shipping label and leave them for the next UPS pickup. If you work for a company that may be interested in supporting us, please call FundingFactory toll-free at 1.888.883.8237. Give the customer service representative our school identification number, 304622, and they’ll set you up to support our account.

If you have any questions about this great opportunity, please feel free to e-mail me at hausknechtj@wawm.k12.wi.us. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hausknecht

P.S. You probably noticed the Recycling Rumble box in the right hand column. Recycling Rumble matches participants against one another for a friendly one-on-one recycling competition. The winner in each pairing will earn a 25% bonus on all items they shipped to FundingFactory February 13-April 30, and the organization that recycles the most overall nationwide will also receive the latest Apple iPad.

7 movies to score for Super Bowl Sunday

Best Football Movies

"Looking to score a touchdown with young sports movie lovers? Our editors help you choose the best football movies to inspire and entertain gridiron fans and movie lovers alike." -- Common Sense Media

Are Super Bowl ads appropriate for kids?

"With more than 100 million viewers on game day — and ads costing nearly $4 million apiece — advertisers are willing to do just about anything to get attention. A lot of the commercials will be fun and light. But many will be wildly inappropriate for kids. Here's just a sampling of what you can expect." -- Common Sense Media

How many books did we check out?

We have checked out a total of 13,690 books so far this year. Wow! That's an average of 866 books per week from September 2012 - December 2012. Way to go, Irving readers! I am excited to see how many books we will check out by the end of the year.

Students in grades K-3 are generally allowed to have 4 items at a time. Students in grades 4-5 can have 6.

Keep reading together, Irving families. You are off to a great start.

Help bring the Burpee Home Gardens "Grow Anywhere Tour" to Irving School!

We have been selected as a candidate for the Burpee Home Gardens “Grow Anywhere Tour”! The voting aspect of the process will officially begin on January 7th when Burpee will have the Facebook voting page up and running!  If you do not have a Facebook, it is ok!  There is no need to have a Facebook account to vote!  Simply go to the following link to vote for your school www.facebook.com/BurpeeGardens.

We can do it! The Burpee Home Gardens food truck is coming our way this Spring … and we’re ready to give it a big Irving School welcome. But we’ve all got to vote! If we win, the truck will deliver 1,300 lbs. of fresh produce, plus 50 plants for our school and 450 for our community. The Burpee Home Gardens representatives will also be on hand to share their knowledge so we can grow the plants successfully. Best of all, there’s no cost to our community! Spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors – share the link and get their votes, because every vote counts!

To help bring the tour to Irving School, go to www.facebook.com/BurpeeGardens and vote for us!  The voting page will stay open until February 15th, so vote early and vote often!
